Islamabad has a wider hotel range than many believe. Most people think of either the Serena or the Marriott. There are also several other property choices. Some guest houses in the F-6 and F-7 sectors, for example, provide more space and more of a sense of privacy at a lower per-night cost when compared to hotel rooms. Islamabad also has a Mövenpick in the Centaurus Mall complex and a Best Western Premier on Club Road (which has a spa and pool) and an expanding number of mid-range boutique town houses which have also changed the scene.

Knowing the sectors provides a good understanding of where the hotels are located, and the effect this has on how far from the various destinations and activities you may want to visit during your stay. This knowledge saves a lot of on traffic time.
F-6 and F-7. This area has the best restaurants and hotels in the country's capital. Twisting streets are lined with leafy trees and embassy compounds and crowded with magnificent boutique hotels and guest houses catering to diplomats and international organizations. A walk through F-7 Markaz is unlike anything the other city streets of Pakistan have to offer. It is truly pleasant.
G-5/Diplomatic Enclave. This section contains the Islamabad Serena Hotel, which is situated next to the actual diplomatic enclave and the beautiful Rawal Lake. As far as location is concerned, this is the most secure hotel. It is close to the ministries, courts, and the Red Zone.
Blue Area. This is the central business district with corporate offices and convention facilities, mid-range hotels, and an abundance of chain hotels that are convenient for the business travel of organizations in need of proximity to offices rather than restaurants.
Near Centaurus, F-8 and newer sectors. The Mövenpick is located either in or near the Centaurus Complex, one of Islamabad's most prominent shopping and dining venues. The newer sectors have more space and cost less.
Airport proximity. The city hotels are about thirty kilometers from Islamabad International Airport, a thirty to forty minute drive under normal traffic conditions, and even longer on weekend evenings. This is further than most airports relative to their city centers, and it makes a difference if frequent travel on early flights is the norm for your trip.
Khayaban-e-Suharwardy, G-5/1, adjacent to the Diplomatic Enclave

Boasts similar amenities with six restaurants, indoor pool, fitness center, valet parking, and full service conference facilities along with high security protocols that make it the number one choice for many corporate groups and government related events. The Marriott is convenient to the diplomatic zone and the Red Zone government offices.
Best suited: Corporate stays or business related groups that need a full service hotel with a very high degree of security, and medium to large conferences.
Centaurus area, Islamabad.
Located in either or adjacent to the Centaurus Complex, the largest of Islamabad'smany commercial and entertainment districts. It has direct access to the complex's restaurants, shopping, and services which meets the needs of the majority of business travel.
Best suited: Business related groups that require high security and full service hotel stays.
Best for: travelers on corporate booking systems, international travelers who prefer a predictable brand experience, and travelers who need the Islamabad International Airport as a point of access.
Club Road, Islamabad.
This mid-luxury hotel offers a full-service spa, two restaurants, an outdoor pool, and a reliable list of amenities at a cost that is lower than the Serena and Marriott. Club Road also has ease of access to multiple sectors of the city. This hotel is consistently ranked among the best hotels in the city on verified booking sites.
Best for: business travelers who want a spa and pool, but don’t want to pay the higher rates for a five-star hotel, and smaller corporate groups.
Islamabad. Wyndham Group brand.
The Wyndham flag offers standardized room quality and reliability in food, and the brand loyalty points, which most frequent travelers know. A good choice for organizations whose travel policy cites international hotel brands, and for international travelers who prefer a recognized name.
Islamabad.
An established city hotel with conference facilities and a full-service kitchen and a mix of business and leisure travelers. The name is consistently listed in corporate booking lists for events and block accommodation.
Gulberg, Islamabad.
The mid-market group offers capital properties with consistent standards. This group owns the Avari Xpress in Skardu, so consistent standards are across the Northern and Capital properties.
College Road, Islamabad.
A boutique property with outdoor pool, gym and restaurant. College Road gives main access to the Blue Area commercial district and the F-sector restaurant areas. The boutique style is geared towards guests looking for a smaller, less hotel-like, 200-room block, style accommodation.
A managed guest house in F-6, F-7 or E-7 provides a family or small corporate team something a hotel cannot: a full sitting room, a proper kitchen or kitchenette, multiple bedrooms rather than multiple individual rooms with a corridor between them, and a residential setting rather than a hotel corridor.
For stays of four nights or more, for families travelling together, and for delegations who need a private space to debrief at the end of a programme day, a managed guest house is often a better answer than a hotel at the same or lower cost.
The sectors that house the majority of established managed guest houses are F-6, F-7 and E-7. These are some of the more secure residential areas in the city with gated streets, frequent security patrols and proximity to the restaurants and other services that make a longer stay convenient.
WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR A MANAGED GUESTHOUSE. Property name and a street address. A designated caretaker that is contacted on WhatsApp, at any time. Confirmed booking with the room or apartment configuration. Arrangements regarding cleaning, linen change and maintenance. References from corporate or organizational clients for this year, not last year.
WHAT IS TO BE AVOIDED. Self-listed apartments on rental booking platforms which have no management, with an owner as the only contact and accountability after handing over the key. The extra cost to choose a managed property with a service commitment is worthwhile for a visiting delegation or an international guest.
A corporate group in Islamabad requires hotel accommodation as a block with a rooming list, not booked on a shared system with flexible cancellations. It may allow rooms to be reallocated if occupancy drops. The main difference is whether your group of fifteen has fifteen confirmed rooms or a "reservation" that the hotel will deliver if occupancy allows.
Ask for a written confirmation of a block with individual room names and a reference number along with the term of the cancellation of the block. A verbal rate and a contract that was not signed does not constitute a block.
Corporate invoicing requires a company name, tax registration documentation and a GST-inclusive invoice on letterhead. If the property cannot provide this, the finance department cannot process it.
The airport is around 30 kilometers from the main part of the city. Make sure to arrange airport pickups in advance. A driver who doesn't know an international flight has landed at midnight is not a plan. A confirmed pickup with the driver's info and WhatsApp for the arrival is.
As for foreign visitors who have a tourist visa, they must also comply with hotel registration in Pakistan. This is taken care by hotels during check-in. Also make sure the guest house managers have set up the registration with the local police station. It is a good practice which operators should comply with.
Make sure to find out the hotel name or location and verify it on the latest map. Booking the hotel in the wrong sector can add 40 minutes to an already tight daily schedule.
Make sure you check whether the airport pickup is included in the hotel charge or if it is to be arranged separately. While a pre-planned pick up at 30 kilometers is not an issue, not having this is a major issue.
Check and confirm the check-in and check-out times. Hotels in Islamabad and elsewhere will charge you extra if you check out late or check in early.
Make sure you get confirmation for the room type on booking the guest house. A two room guest house and a two person hotel room are very different.
Request that GST is included in the rate for any corporate booking. Given the significant cost, many corporate quotes do not include it.
For the managed guest house sector: request the current caretaker’s WhatsApp number and confirm they check the number before finalizing the booking.
