Islamabad to Hunza packages are either the five or six day quick up and back trips, or the longer packages that offer side valleys and a trip toward Khunjerab Pass. If you have five days, the usual itinerary is five days (one day and a half) in Hunza . One day is spent traveling each way, from Islamabad to Chilas and back. Then two nights are spent in Hunza. This provides plenty of time to visit Karimabad as well as the surrounding villages and either Baltit Fort or Altit Fort, Attabad Lake, or the Passu Cones.
This is a brief overview of Hunza, but it requires two very long single-day drives. Driving from Islamabad to Chilas is between 8 to 9 hours, so you spend most of your vacation time in a car. An experienced driver is helpful here since they know the route and the most convenient places to stop.
Your patience is rewarded though as the drive along the Karakoram Highway is one of the most beautiful drives through the mountains you will ever experience. You will pass through the Indus Gorge, and see Nanga Parbat and the spot where the three major mountain ranges converge, the Karakoram, the Himalaya and the Hindu Kush.
In case you have a week, you can take a much easier approach, breaking the trip into 3 drives. The first and last sections will still be long, but the middle sections will not be as long as they are on the 2 long drives. This gives you a more relaxed and enjoyable trip as you arrive to each section you broke the trip into.
You will still have plenty of time for amazing day trips to see sunrise over the Hunza Valley, walk on the glaciers, and check out the views of Ultar Peak.
This is also the window where a drive up towards Khunjerab Pass becomes comfortable. With its location at the border of China at over 4,600 meters, the section is only open in the summer. If you travel within the summer months, you can drive from Sost to the border and back in order to see the mountains and border before dark.
With over a week, you can take the main Karakoram Highway route, while adding several nights in the Hunza and Nagar valleys, and you can think about a trip to Fairy Meadows and the base camp of Nanga Parbat.
Fairy Meadows is something special. It is a short trek or ride from a jeep track, and it is at the base of one of the highest peaks in the world, Nanga Parbat. A trip to Fairy Meadows is a definite bonus.
A longer trip allows the freedom to walk and explore rather than simply taking pictures and moving on. It also allows travelers to stop with a cup of tea and watch as the first light of day hits the peaks. A trip to Hunza rewards travelers who can take their time.

The fastest way is 5 days. That is 2 long days of driving and one day and a half to spend in Hunza. To make the trip truly worth it, take at least 6 days. Adding a couple of extra days worth of side trips, you can take 7-10 days to explore all around Hunza.
What is the most suitable time to take an Islamabad to Hunza tour?
The most suited time is late spring to early autumn as the weather is pleasant and the passes are open and also the apricot orchards are in full bloom. Winter tours can be done, but some high altitude valleys would be closed.
How long is the journey from Islamabad to Hunza and what is it like?
It is a long journey on bumpy and narrow mountain roads. Luckily, the journey is very scenic. Having a good driver is very important and it helps a lot if you do the journey in sections.
Can Islamabad to Hunza to Skardu be done in a single trip?
It certainly can. It would take you at least 8 to 10 days. The typical way is to drive to Hunza on the Karakoram Highway, then cross to Skardu via the Gilgit-Skardu Road, and then do some sightseeing.
Is the Khunjerab Pass open all year?
No. It is closed in the winter. It usually is open in May and closed again sometime in November, but that depends on the winter snow.
